Google Maps essentially uses two Graph algorithms — Dijkstra's algorithm and A* algorithm, to calculate the shortest distance from point A ( Source) to point B ( destination). A graph data structure is essentially a collection of nodes that are defined by edges and vertices.

Google Maps works by using satellite and aerial imagery to create detailed maps of the world.

In the search bar, enter a destination or tap it on the map. Follow the on-screen instructions to help Maps find your location. Tip: Point your phone camera at buildings and signs across the street, instead of trees and people. Once Maps knows where you are, you'll get directions through the camera view on your screen.

(Google uses the World Geodetic System WGS84 standard.) World coordinates, which reference a point on the map uniquely.
